Project 3 Color and Grids

Harmony
This grid is made up of a single picture of a bike wheel that has been cropped and rotated different ways. I worked with cool colors, choosing to use green purple and blue for the photos. I felt the cool colors worked with the silver of the wheel to create a very cold mechanical feeling.

Monochrome
For this grid I used a preset to create a uniform color scheme. I then custom created a grid of four pictures. I took that grid, rotated it different directions in order to make a new grid where the same picture pointed in from each of the former grids. I did this once more to create the final grid. I left some white space between the photos as I felt that it added to the design of the photo and mimicked the white space in each of the individual photos created by the sign structure.

Compliments
Here I used the complimentary colors orange, and blue green. I took a picture of a brick wall and changed the color and rotated the picture so they were all pointing inward. I then took that picture and put it in a contact sheet like format grid. I once again left the white space in the grid as it seemed more visually appealing then when I removed the white space.

Rainbow
With this grid I played with the idea of using different colors, but in muted tones. I started by making a grid of a single picture that I reimported it, made copies of it, and changed the colors.

Other
This was another idea that I decided to play with. I took a picture of a bench and brightened the colors then repeated it in a grid creating a kind of kaleidoscope effect.

Mood Photo
For this photo I used contrasting colors in order to create the mood. I darkened the leaves in the background to emphasize the red tones, and brightened the color on the green leaf, which emphasized the contrast. This created a focus on the green leaf created a warm very alive feeling drawn out by the crisp dead feeling of the leaves that surround it.

This photo shows the use of color to create a cold feeling environment. The use of blue gives the feeling of cool crisp atmosphere. It creates the mood of the photograph, which is very somber.

Project 1

For this project we shot two different subjects. For my first subject I shot the sign post down at Pioneer Square. I choose this subjects because it has a very unique and angular shape that I thought offered many possibilities for interesting photographs.

I choose this first picture because I found the lines and the angles more interesting then in the other photographs. In editing I used a high strength Drama Filter and then lightened and warmed the colors, and lowered the saturation.

The second picture I choose because I found the lighting more interesting, and there was less in the background to pull attention then some of the other shots. I started editing this photo by cropping it just a little bit so it was better framed. I then applied three different filters. I applied a Drama filter which made the white lettering pop. Then I applied a Vintage filter which even out the natural blue tone of the original picture and emphasized the lighting in the background. Lastly I turned the photo Black and White and brightened it and increased the contrast.

The last picture I choose because it was such a different perspective then any of the other pictures I took. In editing I turned the picture Black and White to get rid of the blue color of the original picture and then sharpened the whole picture and brightened it just a little bit.

The second set of pictures I took were of a guitar. I picked this object because I found the shapes and designs interesting.

I choose this pictures because I liked the lines. In editing I only made a few changes by cropping the picture, making the picture black and white and sharpening and brightening the photo.

This second picture I choose because it showed the different shapes of the guitar. In editing I cropped the picture, used a Drama and Vintage filter in order to emphasize the different shapes, and then brightened, sharpened and raised the contrast on the picture.

This last picture I choose because of the different perspective on the guitar. In editing I cropped the photo adjusted the colors, contrast, and brightness, and finally applied a focus to the center of the picture blurring it around the edges,

My Summer

This summer my friends and I spent a weekend at the beach. Though the weather was less then ideal, we spent most of our time out exploring the ocean front. It was windy and cold, but we still managed to have one last relaxing summer weekend before we all returned to school.
